We define our festival experience through attention to details and respect for the community.
SUNWAVES emerged as a counter-offer to what festivals offered in 2007, with no interest in fireworks, crazy lights, smoke machines, and mainstream music.
The idea of the festival was to create a community that is connected through electronic music and respect.
The festival brought some particular elements that today other festivals are implementing as well, but SUNWAVES was the pioneer.
SUNWAVES is the first and biggest biannual music festival in Romania, that goes for 5 days and 5 nights.
It’s the first festival that created a standard for sound quality. Funktion One has become the preferred sound system in electronic music events all over Romania thanks to SUNWAVES.
It’s the first festival that used visuals to highlight the music and used projection panels and 3d cut-outs to create a visual story for each stage in particular.
It’s the type of festival that wants to create a unique setup for the crowd and having the DJ booth decorated with flowers and the tents made with different materials that make the whole vibe friendlier.
It’s the first that built a wooden tent and transformed it into the trademark of the festival.

The festival started with 5.000 participants for the first edition in the Spring of 2007, and now, after 14 years, the festival gathers more than 50.000 unique participants each year, for both festival editions, and it is considered one of the largest niche electronic music festivals in Europe.
100 hours of music each edition with international DJs such as Marco Carola, Carl Cox, The Martinez Brothers, Seth Troxler, Ricardo Villalobos, Richie Hawtin, Lee Burridge, Jamie Jones, Loco Dice, Joseph Capriati, and more.
The local scene was always highlighted in SUNWAVES, with a stage almost exclusively dedicated to Romanian artists and the authentic Romanian sound. We are proud of the awareness we brought to this particular subgenre that became the symbol of the festival for many Romanians and foreigners alike. Raresh, Petre Inspirescu, Rhadoo, Priku, Praslea, Herodot, Cristi Cons, Cap, and so many others are all part of the experience.
Kristal Club is a landmark club in Bucharest’s electronic music scene.
It opened its door in the Autumn of 2003, in a venue that was previously a cinema.
The club quickly became appreciated by the electronic music crowd that was just growing in post-communist Romania.
The international roster made Kristal Club a favorite, not only by the Bucharest clubbers but all over Romania.
Kristal Club always valued the Romanian artists, focusing various nights on local acts and the growth of the scene.
The international recognition came with multiple awards, press, and mentions from legendary DJs that played and fell in love with the club, the crowd, and the atmosphere.
As quoted on ResidentAdvisor: the agency “responsible for some of Romanian best parties”.
For more than 20 years of activity of mainly artist management and booking, Sunrise also put a big pin on building from scratch some of the biggest Romanian electronic music events.
With the main focus on the growth of the scene and music quality, these events are highly recognised internationally.
Under the agency’s imprint, a series of annual and biannual events have emerged, in cities such as Bucharest, Iasi, Cluj, Vama Veche in Romania.
In addition to the Romanian based music events, in the last years Sunrise Booking Agency has tied important friendships with foreign agencies in Europe based in Amsterdam, Moscow, Sofia, and Barcelona.
On the beautiful Dongwe Beach located on the East coast of Zanzibar, SUNWAVES promises an amazing 1st international edition.
With 2 stages, over 40 artists both Romanian and international, the signature design, and the specific vibe, the festival will take place between June 17th (starting at 18:00) until June 22nd (ending in the late morning).
Zanzibar is the place we feel safe way to reunite again in the 24/24 party manner with two wooden stages of electronic music acts, using only natural and local materials.
By bringing our team of sound engineers and sound systems, this edition wants to deliver the same uncanny SUNWAVES quality experience.
The benefits of this location are:
✓ the beach has a perfect size of 43,700 sq.
✓ participants can easily rent rooms at the hotels that are right on the festival beach, and the area.
✓ since this beach is in a ”wild area”, the festival will not disturb the city’s locals.
✓ having access via an paved road will facilitate the festival in terms of transport and logistics.
The wildness of the area, the authentic privacy, and the paradise-like scenery is the perfect location for SUNWAVES. We also chose the East coast to have our traditional sunrise from the water, this time we are blessed to be next to the Indian Ocean
The festival marked 30 editions in Romania, being delayed only last year – with a wide range of artists, the most performant sound system, a friendly setup with 4 stages, well-defined spaces, places for people to chill & a food court, good prices inside the festival, and the feeling of freedom, SUNWAVES prides itself on a loyal audience that was built over the years.
SUNWAVES grew organically from year to year, never compromising on its authentic values.
The festival puts a spotlight on Romanian artists, with many well-known names of today’s scene emerging from the trademark wooden stage.
SUNWAVES is conscious of the environment and our love for the beach and nature transcends into our decisions: from recycling, reusing wood and most of our materials, respecting our surroundings, constant cleaning inside the festival during the days and nights, multiple marked spots for bins, extensive beach clean up after the festival.
